Developing Character through Dialogue and Description

Question description
Write a short scene between two characters who are in a public place, discussing a problem, but never quite come out and say what it is directly, only hint at it. (Think about how the characters talk about the pregnancy and abortion in “Hills like White Elephants” without ever saying it.) No need to include much background information about the characters; simply jump into the conversation. Make sure the dialogue reveals something about the person who is speaking—his/her desires/wants/motivations as well as subtly moves the action forward. Be sure to punctuate the dialogue according to the rules posted for punctuating dialogue—this is important, so please look at the “rules” before your submit. Always skip down to a new line when a new character speaks. Please feature at least one character and no more than four characters. (Too many characters in such a short story can confuse the reader—start small, you can expand and build on this draft later.)
DIALOGUE CHALLENGE (can be used in either option):
Incorporate a scene in which the only spoken dialogue is : “uh-huh,” “umm,” “urrrr,” “mm-mmm.” (or any variations of these sounds)
