Respond to Ivette post. The WHO growth standard charts were developed to monitor the children and infants’ growth rate without considering the type of feeding. It is recommended for use among children aged between zero and two years of age. As compared to the adult general survey and measurement, which targets to formulate an overall impression on the person at first contact, the WHO growth standard chart is interested in describing how a child should grow. Hence, it provides the measurements to which the child is expected to grow. It outlines the expected weight, length, and Body Mass Index (BMI) as per the child’s age. This is a comparison to the general survey measurement, which also indicates the expected values of measured body parameters with the corresponding age. For instance, Jarvis & Eckhardt (2019) states that the BMI classifications for adults who record a normal weight is 18.5 to 24.9 kg/m2. The adult survey measurement points out that the BMI of children should be recorded only to those above two years of age; on the other hand, the WHO growth standard charts has a column for the BMI. However, these two components are similar, as they both do not record the BMI for children under the age of two years.

Question Two
Chapters 9 and 10 of the Jarvis textbook allow one to figure out the importance of crucial clinical nursing aspects. One essential aspect that I have discovered is the element of critical thinking. According to Cui et al. (2018), critical thinking in the nursing profession is a measure of quality nursing care. It entails professional accountability: therefore, the nurse must practice becoming critical thinkers. During the health assessment procedure, it is essential to demonstrate critical thinking. It requires one to analyze the patient’s symptoms carefully, seeks substantial information, and apply the required standards in documentation of the patient’s findings. This is a skill I rarely used when I was a student nurse, as I had never handled a patient on my own. However, being a registered nurse has made me appreciate the value of critical thinking, especially when making independent decisions regarding patient care. Another important aspect of clinical nursing that I have learned through chapters 9 and 10 of the text is attention to detail. Conducting a general survey and measurement of an individual at the first contact before going into the physical examination allows one to pay attention to details that may be overlooked, such as the patient’s general appearance, body posture, or concentration span. It thus leaves no room for errors when communicating the patient’s current health status. This is an important aspect of clinical nursing as nurses being the primary contacts to the patients, should focus on paying attention to the patients’ needs through active listening.
